Understanding Server Names, Admin Users, and Passwords

Different games handle dedicated servers differently. Because of this, Jovian may ask you for additional information when you order certain game servers.

You won't see these fields for every game. Jovian only asks for them when they are needed to configure that particular server.

Server Name

Some games require a server name.

This is usually the name players will see when browsing for your server in the game's server browser.

For example:

Ryan's Survival Server

or:

Friday Night Gaming

Your server name does not need to match your Jovian server name, hostname, or account information unless the game specifically requires it.

Choose something that will make your server easy for your players to recognize.

Server Password

Some games allow or require a server password.

A server password controls who can join the game server.

If your server has a password, players may be asked to enter it before connecting.

This can be useful for:

• Private servers
• Friends and family servers
• Testing
• Communities that do not want the server open to everyone

A server password is not your Jovian account password.

It is also usually different from an administrator password.

Administrator User or Administrator Password

Some dedicated game servers have their own administrator system.

Depending on the game, Jovian may ask you to create an administrator username, administrator password, or both.

These credentials are used by the game itself to give you administrative control over your server.

Administrator access may allow you to perform actions such as:

• Change game settings
• Change maps
• Kick or ban players
• Restart rounds or sessions
• Run administrator commands
• Manage other players

The exact capabilities depend on the game.

Your game administrator credentials are separate from your Jovian account.

Server Password vs. Administrator Password

These passwords serve different purposes.

If a game asks for both, you should use different passwords.

Why Does Jovian Need This Information?

Jovian automatically installs and configures your dedicated game server.

Some games require certain settings to be provided during installation or when the server is first started.

When that happens, Jovian asks for the information during server setup so it can configure the game correctly.

The information you are asked for depends on the game you selected.

For example, one game may only need a server name while another may require a server name, administrator password, and additional game-specific settings.

Do I Need to Remember These?

You should keep a secure copy of any administrator credentials or server passwords you create.

For security reasons, Jovian may treat some configuration values as secrets and may not display them back to you after your server has been configured.

A password manager is a good place to keep these credentials.

Are These My Jovian Login Credentials?

No.

Never enter your Jovian account password into a field asking for a game server password or administrator password.

These credentials belong to the game server and are separate from the credentials you use to sign in to Jovian.
